Yardball for the Future

They call him the Commish. Known to look over a used ball with a scrutiny that would make even Gene Lamont blush. Coy managerial tactics and "untraditional" motivation methods make Tom (Mr. Kant to everybody in the league) the most eccentric and enigmatic figure in all of Yardball. For all of his quirks, nobody ever clained Mr. Kant didn't do everything he could to further the popularity of Yardball: And so this site is born.

Up-to-date scores and statistics, league banter, voting for rule changes, and fan-voting for the ever popular Mid-Summer Yardball Classic - "Yardapalooza" - will all be provided here for all of YB's die-hard fans. So sit back, relax, and revel in Yardball glory all summer long, and for many summers to come.

Yardball 2006: A season to remember and forget

M.V.P. (Rattlesnake League Representative): George "Hannibal George" Doman - This guy can flat rake. Hits with power to all parts of the field, and can hit for average if necessary. A five tool player that does everything well, if not great (minus pitching). Flashes great hands in the field (up for Golden Hands Award and nominated 3 times for D.P.O.T.Y.). Shows great potential on the mound. Has filthy stuff, needs to improve location to recognize his full potential.
M.V.P. (Canteloupe League Representative): Aaron Sedman: Unhittable pitching that borders on unfair. You just expect his pitches to hit board. Opposing batters are often seen closing their eyes and leaving their bat over the plate just hoping for contact. Swings a huge stick but has bouts of K fever. Compares favorably to Rob Deer at the plate.
Cy Young Award: Aaron "ARok" Sedman - Absolutely freezes people with his fastball and has added a splendid arsenal of breaking pitches to compliment his heat. Throws the most consistent strikes of any pitcher. Power pitcher that can dial it back if he needs to. Most dominant pitcher bar none, but has some problems closing out games.
Golden Hands Award (P): Aaron "ARok" Sedman - Handles a hot come-backer better than anyone. Stellar pitching assures he doesn't see to many balls coming back his way though. Physically imposing from the sheet, or shirt, or base, or whatever the pitching mound is made of that day.
Golden Hands Award (Hot Corner/LF): George Doman - Nominated an impressive 3 times for the D.P.O.T.Y. award. Lays everything on the line every night. Takes it personally when he drops a ball. Never hesitates to make a play. Plays with utter disregard for his body. Check the plays for more info; kid can flash the glove.
Golden Hands Award (SS/CF/RF): Tom "The Commish" Kant - Tom Kant: Fundamentally sound and entirely spectacular. Makes all the routine plays and most of the difficult ones. Is nominated an incredible league-leading 4 times for the D.P.O.T.Y. award. The description of those plays in the nominees link should give you a pretty good idea of how this cat gets down in the field.
D.P.O.T.Y. Yardy (A.K.A. Hand Gem Yardy): Doman and Kant hook up on a game-saving play at the plate: Classic outfield assist. Doman slides on the wet grass to grab the ball, comes up firing from over 100 feet out. Drops a dime to a perfectly positioned Kant who makes a clean catch and turn and drills a leaping Sedman for the final out of an inning that preserved the teams chances to win. This play had absolutely everything.
O.P.O.T.Y. Yardy (A.K.A. The Plastic Menace Yardy): Sedman leaves deep center in a 2-H.R. inning: Conquering the 115’ wall is no small feet. Sedman really imposed his will on this game with 4 ribbies off of Doman in this inning. Caught for comment after the game, Doman offered these short but telling comments: “Man, F@$% Sedman.”
Lady Vinsetta Yardy (For gentlemanly conduct): Steve ‘Stycks’ Napalitano: Docile and unassuming, Steve refrains from the petty altercations that often plague Yardball games. Sparkling attendance and contributions to the game make Stycks one of the games foremost ambassadors. This award surprised nobody.
Peoples Choice Fan Favorite Yardy: Tom "The Commish" Kant - Draws them out to the Yardball field by the ones. Never refuses an autograph and always brings energy to the ball field. Never disappoints his fans whether it’s making great defensive plays, managing the hell out of his team, getting fired up in an argument, blazing the base path, or giving up titanic home runs.
Comeback Player of the Year Yardy: Dan "Dbo" Bosanko - A runaway favorite in this annual award. There can’t be enough said about the heart this guy has. Everybody is pulling for this kid to continue to regain his once great Yardball form. He is well on his way already. He’s mashing better, he’s running better, he’s not getting tanked on the mound anymore. The future is bright for Bosanko – Let’s hope it stays that way.
Rookie of the Year Yardie: George "Hannibal George" Doman - The early line favorite for the ROTY has been impressive in his first Yardball season to say the least. Hitting numbers are superb, defense is sublime, and shows spurts of dominant pitching. Has taken the league by storm and remains the most consistent member of a squad containing Doman, Briggs, Slavik, and Bosanko.
